Your tires are one of the biggest investments you’ll make in your vehicle, and if they wear out too quickly, you’re literally burning money on the road. Uneven tire wear is one of the most common problems we see at TWS Houston, but the good news is — most of it can be prevented. Here’s how to get the most life out of your tires.

1. Rotate Your Tires Regularly

Front and rear tires wear differently. By rotating them every 5,000–7,500 miles, you make sure the wear is evenly spread. Skipping rotations leads to bald spots and weak tread, which means you’ll be buying new tires sooner than you should.

👉 Pro tip: Get your rotation done when you’re in for an oil change — easy to remember and keeps your car on schedule.

2. Keep Your Tires Properly Inflated

Underinflated tires create extra friction and heat, wearing down the edges. Overinflated tires wear down the center tread faster. Both situations shorten tire life and can even be dangerous.

👉 Check your tire pressure at least once a month (and before road trips). For Houston drivers dealing with hot weather, air pressure can swing quickly, so don’t ignore it.

3. Watch Your Alignment

If your vehicle pulls to one side, your steering wheel shakes, or you notice uneven tread wear, chances are your alignment is off. Misalignment causes tires to scrub against the road instead of rolling smoothly.

👉 Get your alignment checked whenever you install new tires or after hitting a nasty pothole — and let’s face it, Houston roads have plenty of those.

4. Balance Matters Too

Even a small imbalance in your tires can cause vibration and uneven wear. Balancing is inexpensive and saves you from bigger problems down the line.

5. Don’t Forget Suspension & Shocks

Worn shocks, struts, or suspension parts can cause tires to bounce or lean, wearing tread unevenly. If your ride feels rough or bouncy, it might not just be your tires — it could be suspension

.

The Bottom Line

Tires should last 40,000–60,000 miles with proper care, but neglecting maintenance can cut that life in half. At TWS Houston, we help drivers keep their tires, wheels, and sensors in top shape so you get the most for your money.

✅ Stop by for a free tire inspection — we’ll check your tread, inflation, and look for uneven wear before it costs you.
