💨 “I Need a Tire!” — Maybe Not.

If you’ve ever walked out to your car and seen a flat tire, your first thought is probably, “Well, there goes a new tire.”But hold up — not every flat means a total loss. At Tires Wheels Sensors, we see drivers every day who come in ready to buy new tires, only to find out they just need a simple, affordable repair.

Knowing the difference can save you hundreds and keep you rolling safely on Houston’s roads.

🔍 When a Flat Can Be Repaired

Most flats are caused by:

  • Nails, screws, or small sharp objects

  • Punctures in the tread area (not the sidewall)

  • Slow leaks around the valve stem

If the damage is:

  • Smaller than 1/4 inch,

  • Not on or near the sidewall, and

  • Hasn’t been driven on while flat,

…it can usually be repaired safely with a professional patch-plug combo. We never use just a plug — we do it the right way so it seals from the inside out.

🚫 When You Need a New Tire

Sometimes, replacing is the only safe choice. You’ll need a new tire if:

  • The puncture is in or near the sidewall

  • There are multiple punctures close together

  • The tread is below 2/32” (basically bald)

  • You’ve driven on it while flat — that can damage the inner structure

If your tire shows bulges, cords, or deep cracks, replacement is non-negotiable. Safety first.
